John Davies Young Musician Grant Application

The John Davies Young Musicians Fund is seeking applications for projects that will benefit young musicians and enable access to community music taking place in Ceredigion. The John Davies Young Musicians Fund raised over £ 9,000 by staging a celebratory concert in memory of John Davies in June 2023. The concert was a fitting tribute to the well-known businessman and musician from Aberystwyth. The concert was organised by Ardal Aberystwyth Rotary Club and held at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre. The performers travelled from all over England, Wales and Ireland to volunteer their timein memory of John, who had contributed so much to encouraging their love of music. The Arts Centre contributed all proceeds from ticket sales to The John Davies Young Musicians Fundand a number of local businesses and individuals also contributed.

Ann, John’s wife, said: “Having the company of family members, friends and people who loved John made this a very happy event – a wonderful celebration of his legacy. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to creating such a successful evening and we are extremely proud that so much money has been raised to help support young local musicians.”

The fund will be accessible to those disadvantaged by age, rurality, disability and other vulnerabilities. The project will also reach out to people who’ve never played an instrument, or played in an ensemble before to “have a go”.

The fund meets the requirements of the Equality Act, and will be administered by the Ardal Aberystwyth Rotary Club.
